BARBERSHOPPER OF THE YEAR

February 17, 2024 - 9:58am -- Dave Cassens

David Sisson named Barbershopper of the Year!

Josh Hutt (last year's Barbershopper of the Year) had the privilege of awarding this year's honor to Dave Sisson. Here is some of what he had to say:

The barbershopper of the year award is one of the greatest honors to receive in this chapter. Having received one myself, I can honestly say the only thing better than receiving one… is being able to give one.

As always, picking Barbershopper of the Year is tricky, because every year there are plenty of names that come to mind. Everyone has put their time and talent to the benefit of this chorus. But our candidate this year has shown a quality that many of us can appreciate and recognize: a strong desire to learn and grow. This candidate has not only come consistently to practice on time, but also comes with a desire to learn as much about the music and the craft as possible.

When I met this person, I was amazed at how much energy he had day one and couldn’t wait to learn a new song, a new tag, or new joke about baritones. He has never shied away from jumping into a quartet, even if he only learned the song 2 minutes ago. From there, his enthusiasm only grew as he took his passion back to work with him and tried to hunt down and bring as many new members to rehearsal as he could. I can think of countless times he would mention someone he had told about the chorus and how he hoped to see them at a rehearsal.

He’s also has a great memory when it comes to his fellow barbershoppers. When he’s not singing, he’s catching up with a fellow chorus member, introducing himself to a newcomer, or just giving Russ a hard time.

I have seen this candidate make amazing progress in the short time he’s been with us. And it’s this constant desire to better himself and his craft that makes this person a valuable asset to this chorus.

It is my privilege to present this Barbershopper of the Year award to my fellow lead, Dave Sisson
